You’ve got support on hand before you join us and after you join us. We’ve got support teams to guide you through your journey as a mature student. There’s also opportunities to chat to existing mature students for advice.

Returning to Learning

If you are returning to education after some time away, you might feel like refreshing your skills. The UniSkills Team run a community of support called Returning to Learning. The community reconnects you with education and introduces you to advisors.

It’s a safe space to connect with students across the University who are in a similar position.

Connect with the right people

The Ambassador Platform (TAP)

TAP is your chance to connect with current mature students at Edge Hill.

You can:

– browse the student profiles
– ask an ambassador a question
– discuss student life
– begin a conversation that could shape your future studies

Widening Access and Participation dedicated activity

The Widening Access and Participation Team offer bespoke mature student sessions on:

– introduction to HE
– subject sessions
– how to apply
– personal statements
– interview techniques
– mock interviews

Student finance for mature students

As a mature student, you may be able to apply for student finance. The amount you get depends on your family situation and the type of course you choose to study. You may also get extra help if you have children.

Fastrack Fund

If you are a Fastrack mature student, you can apply for non-repayable funding towards travel expenses, childcare costs and/or accommodation costs.

Postgraduate mature student finance

Postgraduate mature students may be eligible for extra funding or a waiver of fees. There are several internal and external grants, bursaries, scholarships, and studentships to consider.

Students with children

If you are a full-time undergraduate student with children, you may be eligible for supplementary student finance grants. The Parents’ Learners Allowance and the Childcare Grant are non-repayable, and are paid on top of other student finance.

Open Days

We run bespoke sessions at Open Days for mature students. If you aren’t living on campus, this is the perfect opportunity to get to know the campus and ask any questions you might have about being a mature student. You can find out about your new commute or ask about finances.
