The Careers team are an independent service supporting students at Edge Hill University. We are not part of a combined careers service. We help students develop their employability by offering opportunities to learn, gain transferable skills, and acquire relevant work experience. We encourage all students to use our services from your first year onwards. All interviews with Careers Advisers are confidential (except under legal obligation) and our private interview facilities are available.
Careers operates within the AGCAS Code of Practice on Guidance.
Don’t worry if you don’t know what you want to do, or what options you have with your degree, we are here to help.

Self employment
Setting up your own business or working for yourself
Do you have a brilliant idea that you wish to develop, want to be self-reliant, and in control of the hours you work and your earning potential? If so, you may be interested in starting your own business, becoming self-employed or working as a freelancer.
We are currently working with the Princes Trust to raise awareness of self-employment as a career opportunity and develop students’ skills and understanding of self-employment.
If you are aged 18-30 and would like to access training, mentoring, funding, and resources, why not sign up for the virtual, interactive course provided by the Princes Trust.
If you don’t meet the criteria set out above but would like further information on the different types of businesses that may be right for you, and the various resources and websites available on this subject view our handy resource.
