Explore how we are working to reduce our water consumption and associated environmental impacts.
Objectives
- To reduce the environmental impact and costs arising from water use across our estate through improved management.
- Reducing water waste due to inefficiencies in the system.
Targets
- To install an Automatic Meter Reader on the Ormskirk campus main water meter, to improve real-time oversight of water consumption and enable data-driven behaviour change communications. Deadline: December 2026
- Develop and implement a systematic approach to analysing waster consumption trends and identifying unaccounted for water, for the Ormskirk campus, using data from the Automatic Meter Reader. Deadline: December 2026
- Develop and deliver targeted water‑reduction awareness talks to relevant FM-based staff who oversee teams in roles where daily activities can influence water use, equipping them with practical actions and messaging to support organisational water‑reduction objectives. Deadline: December 2026.
- Deliver two behaviour‑change events each year, open to all staff and students, focused on reducing water consumption until December 2031 in alignment with the planned end date of the next iteration of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy, to improve awareness, engagement, and operational water‑efficiency behaviours across the organisation. Deadline: December 2031.
- Install Automatic Meter Reader technology for water consumption monitoring in 10 non‑residential buildings to enhance data visibility, support proactive water‑efficiency management, and inform behaviour‑change initiatives. Deadline: December 2026.
- Develop and launch a training module for all staff and students around practical ways their daily tasks can influence water use, ensuring they receive practical guidance on behaviours and operational actions that support organisational water‑reduction objectives. Deadline: September 2027.
