Application Form
This form is to be used to apply for the Student Sustainability Initiative Fund. Please ensure that you have read all of the information about the fund, including eligibility on the website before you complete the application form. It is recommended that you save the application once you have completed it for your records. Please note that this funding is not intended to be spent on projects that contribute towards assessments such as a dissertation – any project that falls into this category cannot be funded.
Student Sustainability Initiative Fund – Application (Online Form)
Application Process
1. Eligibility
Open to all current students
Projects must be student-led and contribute to environmental sustainability on campus or in the wider community.
2. Funding Criteria
Applicants must:
Submit a costed proposal (up to £100)
Clearly demonstrate alignment with the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy .
Show potential for a positive environmental impact .
Be able to deliver the project within 3 months of receiving project approval, unless agreed otherwise.
Projects must be completed within the academic year in which they are funded, unless otherwise agreed in advance.
Note:
Funding is first-come, first-served until the annual £500 limit is reached, if the fund closing early the website will be updated accordingly.
Funding is reimbursed only after receipts are submitted and approved .
Funding is strictly for the purchasing of items or materials .
Funding cannot be used for travel, wages, or personal compensation .
3. Application Components
Students must complete an online application form including:
Project title and summary (max 200 words)
Detailed description (objectives, activities, timelines)
Budget breakdown (itemised costs up to £100)
Alignment with Environmental Sustainability Strategy
Expected impact (qualitative and/or quantitative outcomes)
Team members (if applicable)
4. Application Windows and Review Timeline

5. Review Panel
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of key stakeholders including:
Corporate Sustainability Manager
Sustainability Champion representative
Facilities Management representative
Biffa representative
6. Decision and Feedback
Applicants will be notified within 3 weeks of the review period.
Successful applications will receive confirmation and guidance on how to claim reimbursement.
All applicants will receive constructive feedback.
7. Reimbursement Process
Students must purchase approved items and retain itemised receipts.
Submit receipts with a brief summary of purchases and how the items were used for the project.
Reimbursement will be processed once receipts are verified and approved.
8. Reporting Requirements
Funded students must:
Submit a brief impact report (maximum 2 pages) within one month of project completion.
Include photographs, outcomes, and reflections.
Note: Students can only receive funding once per year as the lead applicant.
