The Sports Performance Programme is tailored for the University’s elite scholarship athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to both academic achievement and athletic excellence.
About the programme
Each scholarship recipient will take part in a bespoke Sports Performance Programme, a 20-week development pathway designed to support progression and maximise potential both on and off the field.
This programme is delivered by experienced coaching staff, with valuable support from dedicated 3rd-year students, creating a collaborative and professional learning environment tailored to each athlete’s individual needs.
Programme structure
The Sports Performance Programme is built around three core elements:
1. Strength & Conditioning (S&C)
Led by qualified coaches and supported by student practitioners, this component focuses on enhancing physical capabilities specific to each sport. Athletes will benefit from:
Performance testing
Individualised gym sessions
Structured programming to improve power, speed, endurance, and injury prevention Training is personalised to suit both in-season and off-season goals.
2. Sports Psychology
This element supports the mental side of performance through:
One-to-one consultations
Group workshops
Applied seminars Athletes will develop tools to improve focus, build resilience, manage pressure, and strengthen their mindset.
3. Sports Nutrition
Proper nutrition is essential for peak performance. This part of the programme includes:
Seminars and workshops
One-to-one guidance
Sport-specific strategies for fuelling, recovery, and competition preparation Athletes will learn to make informed choices about nutrition and its impact on performance and wellbeing.
