Combined with our commitment to in-person teaching, we were leading the way with our pioneering Virtual Learning Environment over 20 years ago

What we expect from you

Everything you learn will be geared towards your future, whatever your goals or career path. We ensure you’ll have access to academic support, but we’ll also challenge you and ask you in-depth questions about the topics you’ll explore.

What you can expect from us

The way we design our courses is key. We follow a curriculum framework and use a rigorous process to make sure what we teach is informed by research and gives our students the skills employers want. We have a strong background in providing vocational and professional education for career paths including education, health and social care, as well as offering courses in the arts and sciences. But whatever degree you choose, we’ll bring your learning to life and show you how to apply your skills and knowledge to the world of work.

The right environment

As well as your lecturers, you’ll have a Personal Tutor who will be there to guide you. But your support network isn’t restricted to lecturers and support staff. Thanks to our peer mentoring scheme, our students learn how to support each other too.

We believe that where you study and the way you study can make a world of difference to your life opportunities. We’ve studied how students like to use our campus and built outstanding new spaces that not only prep you for the world of work, but are also inspiring to be around. That’s why we’ve invested over £300 million in making our campus one of outstanding study spaces, sports facilities, living quarters, collaborative hideaways and simulated work places.

Want to create? Simulate real scenarios? Perform or experiment? Like our bustling community, our investment in new spaces never stands still. Check out our Catalyst building, lecture theatres, laboratories, studios and specialist facilities (include relevant links). From day one through to graduation, we’ve got you covered.

Employability

We apply real world knowledge to our teaching. Educating students to know exactly what employers are looking for in competitive job markets. This approach saw us crowned best in the North West and in the top 10 in the UK for job prospects (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2020).

Other awards

The Modern University of the Year 2022 accolade is rooted in our culture and campus. Where we are inspirational in our thinking and exceptional in our student experience. We believe in combining quality teaching with future-focused courses that are designed to empower. Equipping each student with the skills they need to thrive. But this is only the beginning.

Take, for example, our beautiful campus. One look around our 160 acres and you’ll see why it’s award-winning. We have invested £350 million in creating top facilities for our students to use, live in, and enjoy. For the 10th year in a row our grounds and green spaces have won a Green Flag Award for their beauty and benefit to the environment. Which in turn we believe benefits our students.
