Whichever of our high quality Geography and Geology courses you choose, teaching will combine laboratory and workshop practical activities, lectures and seminars, directed independent study, dissertation supervision, tutorials and fieldwork.
All of the department’s teaching takes place in our Geosciences building which has a central location in our impressive campus. Our team of friendly tutors are based in the department building and are on hand to offer one-to-one advice.
Without my degree I would not have been able to gain my way into the world of business. The transferable skills I learned in my Geography degree helped shaped my career to date.
The comprehensive curriculum covered key areas of geology and physical geography, aligning closely with industry standards and expectations. The guidance and encouragement I received from lecturers and tutors empowered me to pursue summer work placements with local consultancy firms, which proved instrumental in securing early career opportunities and shaping my professional journey.
Through fieldwork, research and practical elements of the modules, I was able to not just learn a subject but begin to participate and be active with how these topics presented in real-life. That pushed me out of my comfort zone but was the best thing I did during my time here.
Geography under pins everything – you can go in so many directions with it. At Edge Hill you’re going to be pushed to do your best. The team know you’re capable of doing it, you just need to believe in yourself and give everything your best go.
My degree provided a strong foundation for my career as an Air Quality Consultant by combining practical experiences with theoretical knowledge. Fieldwork and laboratory experience further enhanced my technical and report writing skills, preparing me with the essential capabilities for consultancy reports.
Say yes to every opportunity – internships, conferences, networking events. Ask for funding if needed and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward. Building a career often starts with showing up and asking questions.
