BSc (Hons) Geography
Without my degree I would not have been able to gain my way into the world of business. The transferable skills I learned in my Geography degree helped shaped my career to date.
Without my degree I would not have been able to gain my way into the world of business. The transferable skills I learned in my Geography degree helped shaped my career to date. Such as statistical analysis, forward planning, IT literacy & working in a team or individually effectively. I loved the field excursions and working together with a group of my fellow students.
Edge Hill had lots of career facilities when needed, easy support and someone to talk to.
The top three skills that I gained from my degree were:
- Data Analysis & Critical Decision-Making
- Project & Environmental Systems Thinking
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
I was inspired in my current career because, as clichéd as it is, I wanted to make people happy and smile when at an enjoyable event. A typical day in my job is working mostly in the planning phase of an event. Lots of spreadsheet work with numbers for business figures, projections. Calls with clients, suppliers, partners and virtual or physical meetings. The fun part comes when working onsite at an event. Some of the events that I’ve worked on include Glastonbury Festival, Monaco Grand Prix and international corporate conferences.
For anyone else considering studying Geography I would say that it is a great subject to give you a foundation into many different walks of life post degree. Whether that be geography-orientated careers or not.
