• A trained teaching assistant delivers 24, 30 minute sessions to a group of 4 pupils about 3 times a week for 8 weeks
• Sessions help pupils to understand and talk confidently about numbers and calculations in a wide range of contexts and to strengthen their reflective and metacognitive skills
• The programme is delivered outside the classroom daily mathematics lessons
• Training runs alongside the implementation of the teaching programme so that the teaching assistant is trained topic by topic
• The teaching assistant is supported by a Link Teacher within the school.

Our Talk 4 Number intervention programme aims to:

• help pupils to talk confidently about number
• build mathematical language, understanding and enjoyment
• develop a wide range of mathematical talk – explaining, instructing, presenting…
• develop speaking and listening skills in number contexts
• strengthen reflection and metacognition
• extend teaching assistants’ subject knowledge and expertise
• support mathematical talk throughout the school.
