My placement has been a huge learning experience, as I had never attended an English high school. It was definitely the most memorable moment of my degree so far.
The course is not at all what I was expecting when I chose to study Religion. But in a good way. We look at religion through lots of different lenses, including sexuality, gender, feminism, family origins and disability, which I hadn’t even considered before.

Primary Education with QTS (School-Based) – Part Time
The PGCert SpLD (Dyslexia) has provided me with a greater understanding of the challenges young people with dyslexia face. It has also enabled me to find solutions to support young people with their particular learning styles.
The MA is supporting me in my critical thinking and analysis skills, which has enabled me to look at disability through a different lens. I find that I have started to question everything now.
The best thing about Edge Hill is the encouragement to develop and grow as an individual thinker, and to develop a creative way of looking at the world of education.
During my time working as Head of Department, I noticed an increase in students who were battling with their mental health. I wanted to seek a degree that would not only satisfy my intellectual curiosity, but also provide me with the information and skill set necessary to pursue a more tailored career in education and mental health.

I’ve been given plenty of opportunities for continued professional development, and all my theory work is put into context either with real-life examples from my tutors, or when I see it first hand out on professional practice.
I was given more responsibility in supporting children in the Early Years who were on a pathway towards a diagnosis or further support in their education. This inspired me to apply for my masters as I wanted to know more and be the best I can be to support those who need it.
Edge Hill University has a fantastic reputation especially for education and teaching. After visiting an open day and meeting the lecturers I knew that Edge Hill was the place I wanted to study.

The GTA scholarship enabled me to continue doing what I love most: teaching. I was able to put my research into practice, while supporting students become teachers. This is a great feeling and a rewarding experience.
