Adverse weather

In the event of snow or other adverse weather conditions, the University will remain open as normal wherever possible. There may be times when the campuses will close for the safety of staff and students. In these situations, the University will communicate this to students via SMS, email and social media. Staff will be updated via email.

Travel and transport

We recommend that you allow extra time for your journey to campus during adverse weather conditions and check local advice before travelling. Please visit the below sites to get the most up to date travel information:

Advice for students

Students are expected to make every reasonable effort to attend lectures and any exams as normal during adverse weather conditions unless advised otherwise by the University. Where your usual form of transport is unavailable, you should make every reasonable effort to reach the University campus/your exam venue using alternative transport, provided it is safe for you to do so.

If you do make every effort to reach your exam and are still unable to attend due to adverse weather conditions, you should complete a Personal Circumstances Form within 7 days of the exam. Missed exams can only be re-sat in fixed resit periods taking place later in the year.

Advice for staff working on campus

The University recognises that severe weather conditions, such as snow, extreme winds or flooding, may result in hazardous journeys, occasionally making it problematic for staff to travel to work.

Staff are expected to make every reasonable effort to get into work unless advised otherwise by the University. Where your usual form of transport is unavailable, you should make every reasonable effort to reach the University campus using alternative transport, provided it is safe for you to do so.

However, staff should not risk their personal safety and where it is not reasonably possible to get to campus, staff should speak to their line manager about alternative arrangements.
