Delivered in collaboration with the North West Ambulance Service and accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council, our Paramedic Practice degree enables you to train for a career providing urgent and emergency care to service users outside of the hospital environment.
You will gain practical experience in our immersive simulation suite and undertake frontline placements with emergency ambulance crews.
The programme is taught primarily at St James’, our Manchester city centre location, with placements across Greater Manchester and the North West of England.
You can also combine training in nursing and paramedic practice and gain eligibility to register as both a qualified adult nurse and paramedic on our MSci Nurse Paramedic (Adult). On this four-year course, two years are primarily delivered at Edge Hill University and two years at St James’ in Manchester, complemented by extensive placement and simulated learning opportunities.
In addition to the above degree which enables you to train as a paramedic, we also offer a professional development programme for qualified paramedics.
Paramedic Practice is delivered primarily at St James’ in central Manchester.
St James’ provides an extensive modern clinical simulation suite including a mock operating theatre, ambulance simulator and clinical skills stations. A 3D immersive simulation suite enables you to practice clinical scenarios in a realistic, supportive and safe environment.
Approximately three weeks is also spent at the Edge Hill University campus when focusing on particular specialist subjects, such as counselling and maternity care. The clinical skills facilities at Edge Hill University include ward simulations and operating theatres with industry standard equipment, as well as robot-style mannequins that can simulate a wide range of symptoms, from pregnancy to a temperature.
If you are considering studying Paramedic Practice at Edge Hill University, the best way to gain an insight into the student experience is to attend either an open day at Edge Hill University or a drop-in afternoon at St James’ in Manchester.
Although the Paramedic Practice degree is primarily delivered at St James’ , there will be opportunities to attend subject presentations and speak to staff during the open days at our campus in Ormskirk.
Alternatively, you can visit our Oxford Street site in Manchester, view the clinical skills simulation suite, and chat to current students and tutors to find out more about training to work as a paramedic, during a series of drop-in afternoons at St James’.
