What’s your goal for 2024?

Here at Edge Hill, we want you to get the most out of your university experience. And that’s why we have so many dedicated teams across campus to help you do just that.

We realise that this year will have been different for each of you. But we wanted to remind you that you should be proud of all your accomplishments.

As we enter into the New Year, we want to remind you about the opportunities and initiatives available so you can reach your full potential. Clear your mind. Set your goals. And start 2024 motivated and ready. We have put together a list of New Year resolutions to inspire you, as well as how we can support you in completing them.

Improve your grades

Our UniSkills team provide a range of support designed to develop your academic skills and confidence. We offer workshops, online resources and 1-2-1 sessions throughout the year.

Why not start the year with New Year, New UniSkills? The annual campaign brought to you by UniSkills, helps to motivate you for the year ahead while setting goals and creating positive work habits.

Plan a bright career

The Careers Team are here to help you discover your options, develop your skills and compete for a job. You can book 1-2-1 appointments to talk about anything career-related, whether you know exactly what you are wanting to do or are still exploring ideas. And remember, while the Careers Team can help you find part-time jobs to boost your income while studying, they can also help you find internships and graduate work opportunities. The team will help equip you to stand out from the crowd.

Learning a new language or consolidating your existing language skills is a great way to improve your communication skills, gain an insight into other cultures and prepare for time studying, travelling or working overseas.

Learn a new language

We offer a range of free evening language courses that you can fit around your studies. Choose from Arabic, French, German, Italian or Spanish. It’s really easy to sign up with the Language Centre.

Improve your fitness and health

Going to the gym and exercising doesn’t have to be about losing weight. It’s good for your mental wellbeing too. We offer an amazing discounted annual memberships of £75 for our students (membership runs from January – August 2024). So you can benefit from all aspects of Edge Hill Sport, at a fraction of the price. And don’t forget your free swim session in January to help you de-stress during the exam period. Budget to save more money

We understand that money can be a concern when you’re a student. That’s why at Edge Hill there is specialist support available. Our Money Advice team provide info on budgeting tips, support funds, scholarships and part-time work to ease your money worries.

Broaden your horizons

The Student Opportunity Fund can help you kick-start your future career and broaden your horizons. You can apply for up to £2,000 to enable you to take part in exciting initiatives and activities that enhance your employability, build your confidence and develop your transferable skills.

Get more involved in Student Life

Whether it’s getting involved in bespoke sports and arts sessions, watching performances from famous names at the Arts Centre, being entertained by a range of performers on the boulevard or taking part in our Campus Connector events – there’s always something going on. To help plan your week, head to the EHU Instagram for our ‘weekly what’s on’. And keep an eye on the Student Life Portal to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Open new doors

If you excel in any area outside your studies you can apply for one of our Scholarships, worth up to £2,000. In the past we have awarded Excellence Scholarships to entrepreneurs, film makers, volunteers, knitters, performers and fundraisers to name just a few. Not to mention our Sports Scholarships too. Why not apply for 2024?

Get inspired by reading about our exceptional students who were awarded scholarships in recognition of their determination and commitment this year. From academic excellence, overcoming adversity, helping and inspiring others and so much more. Next it could be you.

Volunteer this year

Ever thought about volunteering? There are so many positive reasons to volunteer while you’re studying at Edge Hill. As well as being extremely rewarding, it can also equip you with great practical experience for going into future work. Our Volunteering page is a great place to start your search with a range of opportunities open on the Careers Portal.

Go global

Like the idea of experiencing a new country and culture? Why not try it. While studying at Edge Hill, you can choose to study abroad for a semester, or a full year. Forge new friendships. Strengthen your skills. Consolidate your confidence. And travel to new places. View our study abroad webpage to find out more and start you application. Try a new hobby

There’s something for everyone at university. So while it is a great place to delve into an area you love, it is also easy to find a new passion. And the best way to do that? Join in with the Students’ Union. The EHUSU has over 50 societies for you to join while you’re here. Explore what’s available on the SU website. Once you find something you want to try, you can click join. It’s as easy as that to find a new hobby.

Remember to be kind and flexible with yourself. Celebrate any (and all) progress you make. It’s not just the end goal that matters, it’s the journey along the way. And we’ll be with you every step of the way.
