Library and Learning Services provide access to a wide range of print and electronic resources all of which can be searched in one easy to use platform called Discover More. This includes journals, print materials and over 130,000 electronic books. Guides and tutorials can be found on our finding academic information webpages.
Borrowing items
To borrow items from any of our libraries you will need your UniCard. Items can be loaned from the self-issue machines at Catalyst or at St James’.
To view, renew and manage your loans sign-in to Discover More. Library loan notifications for staff and students’ will be sent to your Edge Hill email account, please check this regularly. If you are unable to return an item by the due date, contact the Catalyst Helpdesk as soon as possible so that we can advise.
Reservations/holds
If all copies of a book you want are on loan you can reserve it. You will not be able to reserve items which are showing as available. If you require an item from another site, please get in touch. You will be emailed when your item is ready to collect, and you will have 7 days to collect it.
Loan lengths and renewals
Standard loans are a rolling two week loan.
All loans will automatically renew on their due date unless you have an item on your account that has been reserved, this process will continue up to 99 renewals.
You can manually renew items, without reservations, by signing into Discover More.
If any item(s) are reserved, you will be notified by email, and the reserved item(s) should be returned as soon as possible. Fines will start to accrue after a grace period of three days after the due date, but please get in touch with the Help and Support Team if you have any difficulties returning items.
Library fines
Fines are only charged on books if you do not return a reserved item. A full replacement fee will be applied if an item is lost, damaged or becomes 14 days or more overdue, as we presume it has been lost. If you have been charged a replacement fee and still have the item please contact the Catalyst Helpdesk.

Returns
You can return items to Ormskirk or St James’ during library opening hours. We offer self-service returns at Catalyst on the Ormskirk campus. You may also choose to return items by post. All items need to be returned by the end of your course.
