How to get involved
Here are the types of activities that employers can become involved with throughout the year. Please get in touch with us to discuss how you would like to work with our students.
Recruitment / careers fairs
These events provide employers with the opportunity to speak directly with our highly motivated, educated and diverse student population. You are able to promote any job opportunities you may have, and are an ideal way to develop your brand among our students.
Edge Hill University does not charge to exhibit, and we are happy to discuss which fairs over the course of the year may be suitable for your organisation to attend. Email the team to find out what fairs we have coming up.
Following the Careers Fair, we had an increase in work experience interest from Edge Hill University Students and we also recruited a Graduate

Onsite visits
Visiting an employer at its premises provides students with a real insight in to the day to day workings of an organisation.
It allows them to see the key skills, attitudes, and behaviours they will need to develop in order to be successful in their chosen career path.
This activity is also a great way for employers to promote themselves as an organisation and further enhance their brand among students.
Mock assessment centres
Many employers put their candidates through an assessment centre to check they have the appropriate competencies for a particular role in their organisation.
To prepare our students for this stage of the recruitment process, we mock assessment centres, to simulate a real-life scenario.
If you would like to run or take part in a mock assessment centre, please email the team.
Barclays place a great amount of emphasis on our contribution to the community around us and in this case, improving the students’ access to employment. It’s great that we have opportunities like this to help our clients and do more good for those around us.

Mock interviews
By conducting a mock interview with our students and giving them real feedback you are providing them with an insight into the recruitment process and building your organisation’s brand on campus.
Mock interviews are held throughout the year in various departments. Email the team if you would like to participate.
I saw some fantastic students and was able to give personal feedback to those who needed more support with interview techniques. All the students were made aware of who I was and more importantly who AO.com are.

Curriculum talks
Employers can work alongside academics to deliver lectures, providing context for students as to how the skills and knowledge gained in University can be applied in the workplace.
This an excellent opportunity for students to hear from individuals within the workplace and is an ideal way for individuals to share their knowledge with many seeing this as a key part of their own personal development.
Career talks
Employers can provide career talks to students, to provide an overview of a sector, employment roles within it and explain what skills and experience they need to be obtaining.
As part of this exercise, the organisations can highlight their own organisations and the opportunities they have available and therefore further increase their presence among our students.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to present career options to your students. It was great to see how enthusiastic the students were, and we were asked many thoughtful questions about the recruitment process and our experiences of work. We are both very passionate about our work and so it was brilliant to have a chance to share that and, possibly, inspire others.

Live briefs/projects
Employers can provide students with a live brief or project, which is related to their organisation or sector. This allows students to address real issues within the workplace and develop key skills which will assist them in securing future employment.
For further information and assistance in designing a suitable brief, please email the team.
Employer advisory panels
An Employer Advisory Panel consists of employer representatives, who share their knowledge and expertise with departments across the University.
This provides a valuable insight into the future trends of their sector and the graduate skills which will be required. It helps to direct the teaching of the University and ensures that Edge Hill University is producing work-ready graduates.
