What you'll study
This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and technical skills needed to progress within the accounting profession or financial sectors. During the programme, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of a range of topics including economics for banking and finance and sustainable finance. Theory is balanced with practice throughout, and you’ll benefit from ongoing opportunities to apply your growing knowledge. You’ll develop essential skills associated with financial decision-making and reporting as well as a thorough understanding of the practices associated with effective financial management and oversight and the computation of tax. A particular highlight is the opportunity to develop advanced skills linked to the Bloomberg Terminal, a leading finance industry data platform for financial analysis and investment strategies. You’ll also benefit from the opportunity to undertake an independent research project linked to a topic within an appropriate field. By the end of the programme, you’ll be well-equipped to harness your new knowledge and skills and excel in the world of accounting and finance.

How you'll be assessed
The course utilises a variety of summative assessment methods, such as academic critical essays, examinations, simulations, case studies, reports, group presentations and portfolios.
Who will be teaching you
All modules are delivered by experienced lecturers and professors who have research specialism and/or professional experience in their subject matter.

The availability of optional modules may vary from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. This means that the availability of specific optional modules cannot be guaranteed. Optional module selection may also be affected by timetabling requirements. Some restrictions on optional module choice or combinations of optional modules may apply.
Entry criteria
A degree equivalent to a UK lower second class (2:2) honours degree in a cognate discipline: For example, Accounting, Accountancy, Accountancy and Finance.
A lower honours degree attainment may be admitted where you can provide evidence of experience and/or prior learning at the discretion of the department.
You may be invited to an interview.
Overseas qualifications will be assessed using ECCTIS (formerly NARIC) to ascertain comparability.
Please note, the above examples may differ from actual offers made. A combination of A Level and BTEC awards may also be accepted.
If you have a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent), there is no maximum number of qualifications that we will accept UCAS points from. This includes additional qualifications such as Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), AS Levels that haven't been continued to A Level, and General Studies AS or A Level awards.
English language requirements
International students require IELTS 6.5, with a score no lower than 6.0 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.
If your current level of English is half a band, one band, or one-and-a-half bands lower, either overall or in one or two elements, you may want to consider our Pre-Sessional English course.
