At Edge Hill University we are always committed to diversifying our student community. We’re here to help you pick the right course, build your confidence and support you in your transition to university.
Support you can access
In collaboration with other teams from across the Edge Hill University community, the Widening Access and Student Success Team are on hand to offer support at different stages of your pre-university journey.
Our Diversity Access Programme provides tailored information, advice and guidance for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students considering Higher Education (HE). The bespoke programme is delivered to a small group of Year 12 (sixth form) or year one (college) students each academic year, with students being nominated for the programme by their sixth form or college staff.
Through a series of activities delivered in sixth forms/colleges and on the Edge Hill University campus, students will have the chance to discuss their pathway to HE and their aspirations. There will be opportunities for them to discuss university life with current Edge Hill students, build their study skills through workshops, and speak to Student Services about any potential worries.
Parents, carers and supporters are also an integral part of the programme and are invited onto campus alongside their students for one of the programme’s key events, talking about HE and Edge Hill specifically.
Students who attend all programme events and activities will receive a reduced offer (equivalent to 8 UCAS points) when applying to Edge Hill University (except for medicine courses).
Financial support
Once you join us, there’s plenty of scholarships you can apply for. We celebrate academic excellence and your commitment to achieve great things outside of your studies.
When you come to visit us on an open day or offer holder day, we can help contribute towards your travel costs. If you would benefit from this support, please contact the Widening Access and Student Success team who will be happy to assist you.
Accommodation
There’s plenty of affordable accommodation options on offer at Edge Hill, designed with our students in mind, to suit all budgets and preferences. During your application to live on campus, you can use our self-select service to pick a room that is best for you. For example, you may be looking to live in same-sex or quiet halls, or those that are closer to where you’ll be studying on-campus.
If you have any further questions regarding accommodation or need support with your application, please contact the Accommodation team who will be happy to assist.
Thrive Fund
UK home undergraduate, thrive eligible students can also apply for up to £1000 from the Thrive Fund, in order to support a career-enhancing project, initiative or opportunity.
The Students’ Union has lots of different societies and clubs you can join. There’s hobby-based groups, religious groups and sports teams. You could even make a new group if what you’re interested in doesn’t exist yet. Our societies are a great way for you to get involved, find new interests, and make friends while at university.
Students who identify as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic can apply to be a paid member of our Edge Hill University Student Advisory Panel to contribute to the University’s approach to supporting Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students. Panel students are asked to attend several meetings per academic year to offer feedback on projects, events, and our university approach. The aim is to explore new ideas to enhance the experiences of our Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic students at Edge Hill.
The Students’ Union also has a dedicated officer for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students. Elected by our students every year, the Officer represents the voice of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students across the institution and is responsible for promoting relevant events and ensuring inclusivity.
We also work with educational practitioners, school/college staff, and Local Authority teams to offer support to Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students and would welcome enquiries from anyone seeking support on their behalf. This also includes providing Continued Professional Development opportunities for professionals supporting these students to develop their knowledge and confidence in understanding the progression to Higher Education.
