The 21-year-old from Liverpool designed and personally funded the new app, Snict, to help fellow students effortlessly track the Edge Link bus, the vital connector between the University’s campus and Ormskirk town centre.
Built with a strong focus on inclusivity, the app features audio functionality for visually impaired users. Thousands of active users have already signed up, and Luke is expanding the service to include regional train data and advanced AI technology.
Luke said: “In my first year, I’d often stand waiting for the bus with other frustrated students, having no way to check where it was. That inspired me to teach myself how to build a basic tracker to solve the problem.
“I never expected the app to take off the way it did, but seeing new people constantly discover and use it has been amazing. Knowing it’s a genuinely helpful service has given me the motivation to keep working on it and improving it for everyone.”
Luke, now in his final year, came to Edge Hill after being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and dyspraxia. While he occasionally found academic processes and sensory overload a challenge, he wanted to channel his programming talents into something that actively helped the University community.

For Luke, the project has been a massive confidence booster, helping him bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world impact.
“While at Edge Hill, I have vastly improved my problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills through group projects and seminar challenges.
“I found that computer science gave me challenges that were hard enough to be difficult, but not impossible. A degree here seemed like the perfect fit for me.”
Beyond the lecture theatre, Luke has been an active member of the University’s Student Advisory Panel, which works with Edge Hill decision makers to improve student experience, using his own life experiences to improve the student journey for others. He credits the supportive environment at Edge Hill and its state-of-the-art Tech Hub with giving him the platform to thrive.
“The campus immediately stood out to me, especially when I saw the up-to-date facilities in the Computer Science Department,” Luke added.
“Edge Hill has supported me a lot throughout my degree. Student Services helped me at the start of university by getting a student support plan in place and pointing me towards what I needed to setup.
“This led to me having meetings with a learning facilitator each week for support with anything that I needed help with Whenever I have been stuck, I’ve been able to ask my personal tutor, seminar tutors or lecturers for help ”
With graduation on the horizon, the scholarship and the success of the app have given Luke the clarity and self-belief he needs to pursue his dream career in the tech sector.
“My goal has always been to go into a career in computer science,” Luke said. “I am now aiming to secure a general role within the industry so I can explore different areas and decide which specific path suits me best.
“There have been so many opportunities to improve my skills at Edge Hill and I feel ready for what comes next.”
