Placement opportunities
Trainees at Edge Hill University on ITE programmes will complete Professional Practice Placements as a compulsory element of their studies. Find out what placement opportunities are available to you.
For the majority of trainees, placements will take place within the North West of England, however we also work with a wide variety of schools across our Partnership and there are various placement opportunities available for many of our trainee teachers:
What is the ITE criteria and how does this affect my placement?
For the University to be accredited to provide Initial Teacher Education (ITE), we must adhere to the mandatory ITE guidance issued by the Department for Education. Failure on our part to adhere to any single point of the mandatory guidance would result in the University no longer being able to issue degrees with qualified teaching status (QTS). Two of the most common elements of the criteria that impact trainee’s placement school choices are:
- Ensuring that trainees have teaching experience in at least two schools (point C2.4)
- Trainees practical teaching experience must take place wholly or mainly in England (point C2.3)
Other elements of the criteria that may impact your placements are requirements that may be specific to your course, such as the age range. An example of this is on a primary 5-11 programme, the University must provide you with at least one Key Stage 1 and one Key Stage 2 experience. For further information on how the Department for Education’s ITE criteria may affect your placement, please visit the government’s website.
