Education Society

Edge Hill’s student-led Education Society is sponsored by the National Education Union (NEU), who provide many CPD courses which can be recognised when applying for jobs and future study.

Joining Edge Hill’s Education Society is a fantastic opportunity, allowing you to expand your knowledge and gain additional experiences alongside your academic studies whilst also meeting people who share your motivations and ambitions.

Supporting you

When you become a student here, you’ll be allocated a Personal Tutor. They will be your main source of support in your academic department. They’ll be with you as you progress throughout your degree, supporting you in three areas: professional/career-related support, pastoral support and signposting you to information you need. But they aren’t just there when you need support. They are also there to celebrate your successes, help with planning your progress and much more.

This history joint honours is amazing for me as I have a keen interest in teaching and history, so my degree lets me explore both.

You are not restricted to one discipline within education, instead you are able to explore education sociologically, historically, psychologically, philosophically.

I have benefitted from the flexibility that this course offers. The split between college time and placement time has allowed me to stay on top of coursework, reading and learning.

“My second-year placement for Edge Hill has been based in North Cumbria which has been thoroughly inspiring, helping me develop skills required to become a teacher. To represent Edge Hill outside of the university itself is a huge honour, which I will be doing again on my next experience which is in Kuwait.”

I really like the passion all the lectures have at the university. This was something that really stuck with me when I first came to the open day.

The course is not at all what I was expecting when I chose to study Religion. But in a good way. We look at religion through lots of different lenses, including sexuality, gender, feminism, family origins and disability, which I hadn’t even considered before.

My placement has been a huge learning experience, as I had never attended an English high school. It was definitely the most memorable moment of my degree so far.

Teaching had always been something I’d considered, but I never thought there was a route available to me without formal qualifications. Discovering this pathway made it feel possible for the first time.
