Arts Centre
The Arts Centre is home to Dance, Drama, and Musical Theatres. It houses two studios, a media production sector, and a variety of suits and recital spaces purpose-built for the creative arts.

The Rose and Studio Theatres – showcasing a range of professional and student productions, open to our students and the wider community. Priority and reduced fee tickets are available to our students from The Art’s Centre Box Office.
The Red Bar – a venue to meet and to enjoy Open Mic nights. Currently home to The Students’ Union (for a limited time while we develop our brand-new £8.5m Students’ Union building).

BioSciences
Our BioSciences building incorporates modern laboratories with some of the best-equipped facilities in the country. The University’s grounds are ideal for sampling techniques, and with leading nature reserves at a short distance from campus, you’re never far from spaces to support your research.
BioSciences is home to Biology and BioSciences. (Chemistry students will be located in BioSciences, subject to 2025 entry).

Catalyst
Catalyst is your one-stop-shop for study and support needs, located at the heart of the Ormskirk campus. It is also the physical home to Library and Learning Services, Student Servicesand Careers and you can access specialist support both within Catalyst and beyond the building walls, with both in-person and virtual support options available.
In Catalyst, our teams are ready to help you with almost any aspect of student life. The building is home to Student Services, Careers and Library and Learning Services. If you are unsure of what help you need the Catalyst Helpdesk will signpost you to the most appropriate support.
Catalyst is open 24/7 during term-time. Covering five floors it is your one-stop shop for study and support needs, with each floor offering a variety of study spaces and printing hubs.
The ground floor is the heart of the building. Here you can find the Catalyst Helpdesk, group pods, the Reading for Pleasure collection, and Edge Hill Archive, as well as computers and laptops, a stationery vending machine and the 53.3°café. The first and second floors have computers, books and journals, reading sofas and bookable study rooms. On the third floor you’ll find the silent study area, which is surrounded by the roof terrace and garden.

Over 1,000 of you shared your thoughts and one of the most common requests was for us to communicate with you via email. With some of the best hands-on learning facilities in the country, our Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre is a safe space to prepare for nursing practice.

Creative Edge
Our £17 million Creative Edge building is designed to ensure our students develop skills and practical experience using industry-standard equipment. The building is home to Animation, Creative Writing, English, Music Production, and Film, Media and Broadcast Production. Outdoor facilities include 3G football and rugby pitches, tennis and netballs courts, a hockey pitch, and athletics track, and a 2.5km conditioning trail. Edge Hill Sport is open to the community.

Police Training and Simulation Facility
Our Police Training and Simulation Facility – also known as the ‘Crime House’ – allows our students to put learning into context in a safe and realistic environment. Here, you can work through criminal and investigative scenarios that you might discover in a real home environment.
Each room in the house is equipped with CCTV that links to a control room. This allows your tutors to monitor investigations and exercises. Plus, you can watch your work back and evaluate your performance.

Beach (Eastern Campus)
You will find our secret beach located right next to Chancellors Court halls. It’s the perfect spot for sunbathing after a summer study session, and socialising with friends.

The Main Building combines original 1930s features with modern facilities. It comprises lecture theatres and seminar and tutorial rooms, as well as IT resources and social learning spaces. A variety of social spaces, food outlets and activities can also be found in the Hub, which doubles up as a marketplace on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Main Building is also home to Main Halls, which boasts modern hub-style rooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Students’ Union
Our brand-new £8.5m Students’ Union building is set to include flexible indoor spaces that can be used for day and night-time events. There will also be exciting outdoor spaces, including an outdoor cinema and food markets.
Note: The Students’ Union is located in the Red Bar for a limited time (while we develop our brand-new Students’ Union building).
The Hub
The Hub is the heart of the University, located in our Main Building. Here you will find a variety of social spaces, food outlets and activities. The Students’ Union head office and the Student Advice Centre are also based on the Hub Mezzanine.
The Hub doubles up as a marketplace, with local retailers and grocers pitching up on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Lakeside (Western Campus)
The Faculty of Education (Lakeside) earned its name because of the picturesque lake it overlooks. Take a walk around the area and see the wildlife – you might even spot campus cat.
Ruff Wood
In 2023, we were presented with the Green Flag award for the 12th year, marking over a decade as one of the country’s best green spaces. We’re also a Gold Tier wildlife friendly campus (Ark Wildlife – study published in 2023).
Located on Ruff Lane, Ruff Wood is a stone’s throw away from campus. We have introduced ecological features and wildlife habitats linking mixed-woodland areas and footpaths to Ruff Wood. Wildflower meadows, open grassland and a new wildlife pond have been cultivated, alongside structural screen planting and hedgerows.
The Rock Garden (Western Campus)
