Edge Hill University offers a range of taught Masters degrees, as well as Postgraduate Certificates and Postgraduate Diplomas, across a wide variety of subject areas.
Our postgraduate taught courses are designed to develop a deeper knowledge and comprehensive understanding of topics you may have previously studied at undergraduate level or you are looking to newly explore.
Whether you are interested in postgraduate study with a particular subject or career in mind, want to learn new skills or gain fresh insights, or take the next step towards a doctorate award, we can offer you a highly engaging learning experience.
Postgraduate students thrive on the stimulation and challenges that study at Masters level provides. You will have the opportunity to work with new concepts, share ideas with like-minded individuals, and shape your own contribution to knowledge as part of our research-active community.
Is a postgraduate taught course right for you?
A postgraduate taught course is ideal if you are looking to:
- Progress from undergraduate study;
- Explore a new subject of interest;
- Prepare for a research degree;
- Acquire new and specialised skills;
- Enhance your career opportunities.
During your studies you will be supported by a personal tutor and can expect to attend a combination of seminars and tutorials along with preparing supervised coursework. Some programmes also require the completion of an assessed dissertation and/or an examination.
Course Options
Postgraduate Certificates (PGCert) typically take just a few months to complete if undertaken on a full-time basis or around a year studying part-time. Requiring 60 credits to be achieved, a Postgraduate Certificate is ideal if you wish to top-up existing qualifications or expand your knowledge to improve your career prospects;
- Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) require 120 credits to be completed but unlike a taught Masters degree do not require you to undertake a dissertation. These qualifications can typically be completed in 12-18 months and are often available on a full-time or part-time basis. They are ideal if you wish to study a qualification to enhance your career prospects but without the requirement to undertake significant amounts of academic research;
- Taught Masters Degrees (LLM, MA, MBA, MSc) are typically one-year full-time or two to three years part-time, however some programmes are longer than this. They require a total of 180 credits to be achieved, usually made up of 120 credits from taught modules and 60 credits from your dissertation. These qualifications are ideal if you want to study a subject in great detail to enhance your employability, while also gaining a large amount of specialist knowledge in a particular area.
