Applying for accommodation
At Edge Hill, we’re able to guarantee full-time undergraduate students from the UK and EU a place in our halls for the first year of their studies.
Don’t worry though, our on campus accommodation is also available to second and third year students.
Once you have accepted Edge Hill University as your firm choice on UCAS, you’ll be invited to choose your on campus accommodation. We have created an interactive map on our portal so you can view our room availability. From there, follow a few simple steps to choose one that suits you best.
Our accommodation portalYour invite email from [email protected] will provide you with a link to the Accommodation Portal. When logging in to the Portal for the first time, use your Student ID number (provided in the invite email) and select the ‘Register/Forgotten Password’ button to set a password. From here you should log in, select ‘Choose your room’, and follow the on-screen instructions which will take you through:
- choosing your room
- signing your Residential Licence Agreement
- paying your £150 Advanced Rent fee
You will need to complete all three of these steps to confirm your room, so please ensure that you have a payment card to hand for Step 3. You will have one hour from the point at which you select your room to complete all three steps.
If you have chosen Edge Hill as your firm choice, you will receive an email from [email protected] inviting you to select your room.
After making your choice on UCAS, it could take a few days for your invite email to reach you. Check your junk folder in case the email has gone there.
If you still don’t have the email, contact us at [email protected].
Once you have completed the three steps detailed in your invite email, the system will show that your room is confirmed. You will also receive a confirmation email from [email protected] with a summary of your confirmed room.
Completing the process early will ensure you have the widest selection of rooms to choose from. However, don’t worry if you’re not ready to choose your room straight away – your access to the system will remain live until May.
You should follow the steps from your invite email to access the Accommodation Portal and in the ‘Additional Requirements’ section, select the tick box to indicate you have a requirement. You will then be asked to provide further information and we’ll be in touch within two days to advise next steps.
Keep an eye out for any emails from [email protected] and make sure to check your spam/junk folders.
Explore our adapted accommodation guideIf you identify as a woman, women-only halls are Pankhurst and Roscoe in Palatine Court and Millner in Chancellors Court. You can select these just like any other room using the interactive map in the Accommodation Portal.
If you identify as a man and wish to live in a same-gender cluster, please contact us directly.
Wired network connections for PCs, games consoles and other devices are available in all halls except for Forest Court (Wi-Fi is available in all rooms).
Select the ‘Register/Forgotten password’ button on the log in page. A new temporary password will be emailed to you, which you can use to log in to the Portal before selecting a new password.
If you confirm a room and pay your Advanced Rent fee, any changes need to be processed via the Accommodation Team who will be happy to help.

Your rent is payable once the academic year has begun, and is processed in three instalments. These instalment dates align with the dates when you will receive your Student Loan payments (if you have chosen to apply for this). We will be in touch in August to arrange for you to pay by either:
- setting up a recurring card payment for the remaining balance (which is due and payable in instalments throughout the academic year in alignment with Student Loan Payment dates)
- pay all remaining rental balance in advance in August.
Complete a Third party disclosure form by logging into the Accommodation Portal. The form can be found in the ‘Requests’ menu. This will remain on your profile throughout your time at Edge Hill unless you choose to remove it.
Find more information on third party disclosureContact the Hall Fees Team – they can help by delaying/rescheduling your payment dates.
Find out more about hall feesContact the Hall Fees Team – they can help as they can revise your payment plan at any time and advise how the shortfall can be met.
They will also link you in with Money Advice Team, who can provide advice and guidance on all things money related.
Find out more about hall feesMake sure you transfer your money to the right account at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled payment date.
You can update or provide replacement card details online to ensure all future payments are successful.
The Hall Fees Team can also assist with updating your bank card details in the event that you have changed your bank card. It is important to remember that your payment plan is linked to the 16 digit number on your debit/credit card and not to your sort code and bank account number. If you don’t update your card details your payment will fail unnecessarily.
Students who are unable to pay their hall fees must inform the Hall Fees team as soon as possible so they can offer support, guidance, and review your payment options.
The Hall Fees team can:
- assist you with any queries you may have regarding your accommodation fees and your associated payment plan
- provide guidance and support in relation to any difficulties you may experience with your accommodation payments
- refer you to the Money Advice Team for additional financial support as appropriate
If you fail to pay, or to negotiate a payment plan, you will be subject to the University credit control procedures. You should note that failure to settle outstanding bills will affect your standing at the University and may result in your debt being referred to an external debt collection agency.
To update your card details, you will need to enter the card holder’s email address, after which you will be sent an email containing a secure link to where you will be able to enter your new card details. Please note this link is only valid for a short time and can only be used once.
Get connected
You will need your username and your temporary password, both of which are found on your Stage One Enrolment email.
You must change your temporary password as soon as you can or you risk your account being locked and some services not working. If you are unsure how to do this, contact the Library on 01695 650800 or via Ask Us.
Please ensure you read and understand the University IT Acceptable Use Policy.
Those with their own PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone or other mobile device and/or mobile can connect to the Internet using the University wireless network ‘EDUROAM’ (please remember to bring your wireless adaptor / dongle if you are bringing a PC).
Full details on how to connect to and use eduroam.

If you are in Chancellors Court, Founders Court, Graduates Court. Palatine Court, Woodland court or Stanley/Clough halls, you can connect your PC/laptop to the wired infrastructure. You will need to bring an ethernet cable.

If you are in any of the Chancellors Court, Founders Court, Graduates Court, Palatine Court or Woodland Court halls you can register your games console to be connected to the Internet via a wired connection.
Residents of these Halls will receive an email with instructions as to how to register in the first few weeks of term. Please note that some network ‘ports’ may not be available (or ‘open’) – this is to ensure the security and integrity of the University network, and to prevent illegal and/or unauthorised activity such as peer-to-peer file sharing. This may affect your gaming experience.
You cannot enter into a contract agreement with a landline internet service provider whilst living in halls. You can’t have an ADSL telephone line or fibre optic line installed in your room.
If you purchase a (wireless 3G or 4G) USB broadband dongle you must be wary of high data charges that you may incur when accessing bandwidth-heavy applications such as online games or video streaming services like YouTube or BBC iPlayer.
Living off campus
If you’d prefer to live off campus, there are plenty of options available to you.
Explore our off campus accommodation finderThere are both advantages and disadvantages to choosing off campus accommodation. Off campus accommodation can be cheaper than university accommodation, and private homes or apartments are likely to be quieter than on campus halls.
You may enjoy more privacy and independence when living in private accommodation, although it could be more difficult to mean like-minded people who study similar courses.
Off-campus accommodation is also a suitable option for international students, who may be bringing family or dependents with them to university.
Explore accommodation advice for international studentsNo matter where you choose to live, we’re here to support you. And wherever you choose, you’ll still be able to participate in university life on campus. As an Edge Hill student, you’ll have access to great facilities, resources and support services.
Find out more about living off campusPrivate accommodation is generally cheaper than university accommodation. However, at Edge Hill, some of our on campus halls start from as little as £80 per week.
And, because our accommodation is owned by the University and managed on-site, we’re able to keep hall fees low. So you’re getting the best accommodation for the lowest possible rate and with easy access to a bustling and supportive campus – win-win. Our rents are below the national average and we never implement big increases (in 2023 our rent increased by just 1.1% compared to a sector average increase of 14.6% (student accommodation costs report: Unipol and HEPI)).
