Things you need to know

Support for our community in relation to the conflict in Middle East

We are aware that communities, including many in university campuses across the UK, are deeply affected by the conflict in the Middle East and the tragic loss of civilian life. Our thoughts are with all those innocent parties caught up in these events directly or indirectly.

As the conflict continues, our priority is to ensure that students and colleagues who are impacted are offered all available support. We know that some members of our community will be distressed and worried. If you are affected, please do reach out to any of the services listed below or signpost our services to those who you think may need them.

Support for students is available through our dedicated Student Wellbeing Team. You can book an appointment by email, by phone on 01695 650988, or via the Catalyst Helpdesk. Please present to the Catalyst Helpdesk if you need urgent or immediate support. Support for staff is available through our HR Advisory team. They can be contacted either by email or by phone on ext. 7393.

Our Faith and Community Service can also offer faith and pastoral support through their Listening Ear Service to both staff and students. Email Faith and Community for more information or to book an appointment with a member of the Chaplaincy Team.

We know that this is an incredibly difficult time for members of our community, and we ask everyone to respect and support each other. We want to remind everyone that racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, incitement or harassment will never be tolerated, and that any incidents of this nature should be reported to either the Student Resolution Team by emailing [email protected] or for staff, the HR Advisory Team by emailing [email protected].

Our Campus Support Team are also available 24/7 for support while on campus. You can contact them in person at the Security and Customer Information Centre at the front of campus. You can also call them on 01695 584227 or text 07785 928 911.

COVID-19

The Coronavirus pandemic has gone through a number of phases since it began in early-2019. As a result of the successful roll-out of the vaccination programme and more effective treatments to prevent severe illness, the pandemic has moved to a point where we are living with Covid with very few restrictions in place. There are still simple measures we can take to minimise transmission of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases including having good hand hygiene and adopting behaviours such as Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.

Further information on the latest advice can be found on the NHS page.
