As an Edge Hill student, you will be allocated a Personal Academic Tutor. They are your main source of support in your academic department. Your academic tutor will be with you as you progress throughout your degree, supporting you in three areas: academic, professional/career-related and pastoral support and signposting. But they aren’t just there when you need support. They are also there to celebrate your successes, help you plan your progress and more.
Why do you need a Personal Academic Tutor?
Your Personal Academic Tutor is available to help you in lots of areas of your life as a student. This one-on-one relationship also lets you address specific challenges in a more focused, supportive environment. This can include:
- Settling in and feeling that you belong
- Being heard if things don’t seem right
- Being sure of your timetable and module choices
- Academic work and progress year-by-year
- Making sense of your feedback
- Career ideas, planning and personal development
- Directions to where to get help with life’s challenges
What can you expect from your Personal Academic Tutor?
During your time at university, you can expect to meet up with your Personal Academic Tutor at least four times in your first year, and twice per academic year after that. These meetings are preferably in-person, however, they can be online if needed. Outside of your meetings, you can contact your Personal Academic Tutor to arrange appointments or get advice. Your Personal Academic Tutor can also help direct you to other support teams on campus including UniSkills, Money Advice, Accommodation and Mental Health and Wellbeing support.
