You’ve submitted your application, made us your Firm choice and got your results – but what’s next?
Starting university is an exciting time, full of changes and learning as you discover your new home – which can also mean some (completely natural) nerves start to set in . So, to help you take this next step, our current students have shared advice about their first week at Edge Hill and how they found settling in.

On the first day, two Campus Connectors took us on a tour to help us get to know both the campus and Ormskirk. The campus is huge, so we spent around 30 to 45 minutes walking around. There were sports facilities, football pitches, an Olympic track, a swimming pool, study areas, the Students’ Union, faculty buildings and accommodation.
After the campus tour, we headed into town and got recommendations for student friendly places, affordable spots and useful shops. It was genuinely helpful for the first week.

Welcome Week, organised by our Student Life team, will be packed with activities designed to help you feel part of the Edge Hill community from the moment you step onto campus. From course introductions and campus tours to social events and fairs, there are plenty of opportunities to meet your course mates and discover societies, sports teams, and support services. These events can help you feel more confident and at home, so we really recommend coming along to as much as you can.
Be sure to join a campus tour and get your bearings, plus you can take in the sights and sounds of our stunning 160-acre campus.
From the very first day, I fell in love with Edge Hill University. The welcoming people, supportive systems, engaging learning style, and beautiful surroundings made it clear that I was exactly where I needed to be.
I instantly knew I was home.

If you’re struggling to find a society, the Welcome fair can be a fantastic way to check out societies and meet people.
There are plenty of events throughout the year, so I wouldn’t be disheartened if you missed any events or didn’t feel comfortable trying new things straight away.

While you’re settling in, you’ll also notice the friendly faces of Edge Hill’s Campus Connectors – often in their purple tops. Campus Connectors are current students who work alongside the Student Life team to help you settle in, share useful tips, and point you towards events and opportunities happening across campus.
Stop them for a friendly chat, if you need help finding your way, or if you need signposting to support services. Don’t hesitate to say hello – they’ve been in your shoes and are there to help you settle in.
People here are very friendly… there are many events organised by the university to make it easier for you to make friends… the Campus Connectors are there to guide you and introduce you to new activities and new people.
If you just need some guidance there is always a coffee hour you can book on to through the student life portal to have a one on one with a Campus Connector.

To help make sure you don’t miss a thing throughout the year, you can log on to our Student Life portal too. The portal lists everything taking place on campus, from regular free activities through to ticketed events and even some activities going on in the local area.
Whether it’s going for a walk around campus or grabbing a coffee with new friends – it’s the small moments like this that will help you feel more settled. Your first week at Edge Hill is just the beginning of your journey. Take it one step at a time and enjoy the experience, and we’re here to help if you need it.
