Part-time work is a great way to not only top up your student loan, but add valuable transferable skills to your CV ahead of graduating. Whether you’re planning to live on campus or commute, there are a number of roles that are suitable to work alongside your studies.
Our current students work in a range of administration, hospitality and retail roles across the North West to top up their student loans – and our campus is perfectly placed to reach plenty of exciting opportunities. We’re lucky to have so many tourist destinations close by that attract a lot of visitors meaning there are potentially hundreds of jobs that students can do seasonally too; like working at Knowsley Safari Park, Aintree Racecourse and various festivals across Liverpool. Or we’ve got lots of opportunities in our retail outlets, for Student Ambassadors, Panel Members, Content Creators and more right here on campus.
“I’d recommend looking for work in Ormskirk in one of the many shops, bars, or otherwise… it’s [also] easy to get work in Liverpool, or even Southport, Burscough, Skelmersdale, Preston, all with great links to Ormskirk.
“I’ve worked as a bartender, at CEX, and Southport Pleasureland, all whilst being at university here.”

Our dedicated Careers team can help you to find and apply for part-time work, with CV appointments and mock interviews available throughout the year to give you the best possible chance of securing the role you want. Alongside this you’ll have access to our Careers Portal, where you can find and apply for live vacancies and other exciting opportunities such as placements or internships. Students can also book tailored appointments with the Careers team, to discuss their career options or look over any applications.

“In my first year I didn’t honestly think I needed help, but booking a CV appointment changed everything. The Careers team helped me make my CV sound more confident and in more of a ‘UK-style’, even with limited experience.
“They also gave me tips for interviews and applications, which made the whole process feel less scary. Local jobs around Ormskirk are worth looking at as there are many cafés, takeaways, supermarkets and shops that often hire students – especially during busy periods. “

University life can be demanding, so it’s important to know how to balance your part time work with your studies. Many local employers understand that student’s availability is different, and will work with you to find a solution to fit both of your needs. At Edge Hill, there’s plenty of support available to help you manage this balance.
Our careers and student support teams can offer advice on finding part-time opportunities that fit around your timetable, as well as guidance on time management and wellbeing. With the right support in place, working alongside your studies can help you build valuable skills, gain experience, and make the most of your time at university.

“My best advice would be to invest in a diary. Whether that is a physical copy or an app, making a way of detailing what you have on in that day.
“Another thing I would suggest is not to work too much. You will have lots of work to do outside of university time, so not having lots of work on will allow time for this.”

“One thing that really helps me is creating a timetable. At the beginning of the week, I try to plan out what I need to do for the next few days. I write down my lectures, my work shifts, and the academic tasks I want to complete. Seeing everything written down helps me understand how much time I actually have and what I need to focus on first. Starting assignments early, planning your shifts carefully, and keeping track of your tasks can make things easier.”
