Our award-winning Ormskirk campus combines 160 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds with cutting-edge modern architecture, including our new £14 million Student Hub. The Faculty of Health and Social Care is housed in a £14 million purpose-built building with some of the best facilities for health and social care students in the country. The teaching and learning resources provide leading edge clinical skills facilities and ward stimulations with industry standard equipment to give students as realistic a learning experience as possible. University Hospital Aintree is the base for some of the Faculty of Health and Social Care’s professional development courses in our Postgraduate Centre. The onsite Learning and Information Resource Centre at Aintree also offers state-of-the-art facilities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Location
St James’ is Edge Hill University’s base serving Greater Manchester. Situated near the heart of the city on Oxford Road, St James’ is near the centre of the student district, close to Piccadilly and Oxford Road train stations and all the student amenities of the area. It houses an extensive clinical simulation suite, including a mock operating theatre, simulated ambulance bay, and clinical skills stations. The site also has an open plan library and IT facility ensuring that students have access to all the University’s extensive learning facilities. The site is used for pre-registration and post-registration programmes such as Operating Department Practice and Paramedic Practice. Location
Our Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre provides a location for clinical skills and simulation training for all Faculty of Health and Social Care students. The centre has top quality training facilities based at both our Ormskirk and Manchester sites.
All Faculty of Health and Social Care students have access to library facilities at the Ormskirk, Aintree and Manchester bases and whilst on placement, at NHS libraries in Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester:
- University Library, Ormskirk Campus – extensive PC provision, group and individual study space and access to 200,000 books, and audio-visual items.
- Library Information and Resource Centre, University Hospital Aintree – a multi-disciplinary library for Aintree NHS staff and Edge Hill students. Stock covers medical, nursing, midwifery, ODP and related health care professional activities.
- St James’ – The centre has a dedicated library with a tailored book stock to support the courses that are run in Manchester. There are study spaces suitable for small group work or individual study, and the building has power to enable personal mobile technology use. IT facilities include 16 PCs in the IT training room, and 6 PC’s in the Library. Social space is also provided around the building.
- Libraries at NHS Placement Sites – Students who attend placements at NHS sites will be able to access on-site NHS libraries. These libraries contain materials for NHS staff and access to resources via the NHS library website www.evidence.nhs.uk . Some libraries allow students to borrow resources but smaller libraries may be reference only.
