Social prescribing
What is Social Prescribing?
Many factors that impact our health, such as loneliness, isolation, and stress, cannot always be addressed by doctors or medication alone. Social prescribing offers a holistic approach by connecting individuals to non-medical support to help address these issues and other unmet needs. We can assist you in identifying your personal goals and linking you to relevant activities both on campus and within the community that can enhance your mood and overall well-being. The social prescriber will guide and support you as you engage in these activities, helping to build your confidence and improve your mental health.
How does this work at Edge Hill?
We will connect you with support both within student services and from external community organisations to help with a variety of needs, including:
- Meeting new people at university and feeling more connected
- Discovering societies that match your interests
- Becoming more active and adopting a healthier lifestyle
- Exploring hobbies and personal interests
- Getting to know Ormskirk and the surrounding areas
- Accessing statutory services
- Finding volunteering opportunities
- Connecting with local neighbourhood and community groups
Social prescribing serves as a bridge to help you access the support you need and achieve your goals during your time at university. If you’re feeling anxious about seeking support, we’re here to guide you through that first step, which can often be the most difficult part.
Please note: This is not a counselling or listening ear service. We can offer signposting if you require these services.
