English Requirements

To study with us, you’ll need to show that you meet our English language requirements.

We accept a range of tests, and each has its own minimum score depending on the level of study you’re applying for. You’ll need to achieve the required grades to be eligible for entry.

  • Undergraduate: HKDSE English with a grade of 3 or above as an alternative to IELTS 6.0
  • Postgraduate: HKDSE English with a grade of 4 or above as an alternative to IELTS 6.5

Foundation entry requirements

To be considered for a foundation programme at Edge Hill University, you must hold:

  • A Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education with a minimum score of 222 across three subjects, excluding Mathematics and English

To be considered for an undergraduate course at Edge Hill University, you must hold a HKDSE qualifications with the following grades:

Postgraduate programmes at Edge Hill University offer a diverse range of opportunities for students looking to further their academic journey and career development. Whether you’re interested in deepening your expertise through a taught programme or pursuing original research, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Postgraduate Taught programmes

To be considered for a taught postgraduate course at Edge Hill University, you must have completed:

  • Bachelor (BA) degree from a recognised Hong Kong university 

A minimum equivalent grade of 2:2 is generally required, though some programmes may require a 2:1, relevant work experience, or additional qualifications.

Postgraduate Research programmes

If you’re considering research-based postgraduate study, we offer both MRes (Master of Research) and PhD programmes across a wide range of disciplines.

As part of your application, you will need to submit a research proposal, an academic CV, a scan of your passport, an English test, budget sheet and a scan of your degree certificates/ transcripts with your application.
