As a necessary part of the teaching within your programme, you will be required to participate in a range of simulated practice scenarios.
Participation in patient simulation activities is not compulsory and students/service users have the right to opt out at any time with a valid reason – not partaking in these simulations may be detriment to your progression if you are unable to demonstrate an aspect of practice
Simulation and skills guidelines
There are a number of guidelines you are expected to follow by enrolling on to your programme.

Practise safely and effectively within the scope of your knowledge and skills.
Seek the guidance of teaching staff and be guided by those staff directing the sessions.
Advise teaching staff of any reason that may prevent you from engaging in a particular session.
Demonstrate adherence to appropriate guidance on conduct and ethics.
Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct within all sessions.
Wear uniform as per uniform policy (if applicable).
Avoid bringing food or drink into the Simulation and Skills rooms.
Adhere to hand washing guidelines.
Actively take part in the agreed clinical simulation/scenario.
Treat all scenarios and patient simulators in a professional manner.
Be aware of the impact of culture, equality and diversity on your and others’ engagement in practical sessions.
Practise in a non-discriminatory manner.
Maintain confidentiality.
Communicate effectively.
Work appropriately with others.
Reflect on and review your engagement in these sessions.
Draw on appropriate knowledge and skills to inform your engagement within practical sessions.
Discuss with your personal tutor any issues which have arisen in practical sessions that have upset you/others or any concerns you may have regarding the practice of others.
By enrolling on your programme you are agreeing that:
You have understood the health and safety briefing and risk assessment guidelines.
If there are any changes which may affect your ability to participate in simulated learning; for example, back problems, pregnancy, latex allergy or any other personal matter then you understand that it is your responsibility to inform the facilitator.
Consent to video and/or photograph participants of simulated practice
24- hour Video recording takes place within the Simulation and Skills Education Centre and is used as part of the simulation-based education experience. At times photography or video may be taken and downloaded for educational or promotional purposes to highlight examples of good practice. The photographs and videos remain the property of Edge Hill University and permission will be sought from the participants to further reproduce photographs or video to be used for teaching or marketing purposes in the future. If you do not wish to have your photograph or video used please contact your programme lead.
Fitness for training
In order to undertake the practical aspects of the simulation sessions, you will need to be able to carry out a range of movements, adopt variable postures and move/transfer loads.
