BSc (Hons) Computer Engineering, BSc (Hons) Computer Science, BSc (Hons) Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence, BSc (Hons) Computing, BSc (Hons) Cyber Security, BSc (Hons) Games Development, BSc (Hons) Robotics & Artificial Intelligence and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering. Each course combines theory and practical learning. You will develop skills in problem solving, programming and working with modern technologies through practical projects and specialist laboratory sessions.

Preparing students for a successful career is a key priority within the Department of Computer Science. All our degrees use industry-standard software packages and equipment. Course content is informed by industry representatives, professional bodies and research-active academics. This helps ensure you develop relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills.
All students can attend a dedicated award-winning Computer Science careers fair featuring more than 20 technology employers. You can access support from our employability and placement team to find placements, internships, sandwich years in industry, study abroad and work experience opportunities.

Computer Science students can gain valuable industry experience through a wide range of placement opportunities. These include sandwich year placements, summer placements, Easter placements, part time internships and voluntary work experience. Our dedicated employability and placement team works closely with employers across the North West and beyond, helping students build professional experience throughout their degree. Previous students have secured placements with organisations including Google,Microsoft, Jaguar Land Rover, Barclays, BBC, General Electric, Network Rail, The Walton Centre, Bentley, Nova and Nuttersons.
Computer Science students are based in the £13 million Tech Hub, a purpose-built facility designed specifically for Computer Science and Engineering. The building features modern computing laboratories, specialist networking and games programming laboratories, a research laboratory, an open access laboratory and a Harvard style lecture theatre.
You will have access to high specification computers, high resolution screens, robots and robotic simulators, networking hardware, web development tools, software development environments, graphics software, big data servers, eye tracking technology, interactive 3D teaching screens and specialist software used in digital forensic and cyber security.
Outside of the Tech Hub, you can enjoy our award-winning 160-acre campus. Halls of residence, top facilities, sustainable teaching spaces and landscaped grounds. We’ve invested £300m over the last decade. Many of our students spend their time outside of the classroom utilising our impressive Catalyst building, expansive library and 60 acres of sport and leisure facilities.
Computer Science at Edge Hill is about more than what happens in the classroom. Alongside your studies, you can get involved in hackathons, competitions, clubs and societies, industry trips, careers events. You can also take part in our annual End-of-Year Showcase, where students present their work to invited industry guests. These opportunities help you develop your skills, build confidence and connect with like-minded students who share your passion for technology.

Many are accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, helping you take your first steps towards professional recognition. Computer Science is ranked 2nd in the UK overall by Uni Compare 2027 and performs strongly for student satisfaction. It is also ranked 2nd in the North West for learning resources (National Student Survey 2025) and 3rd in the UK for student voice (National Student Survey 2025 and 2026).
Beyond your course, you’ll study at a university ranked 4th in the UK overall and 1st in the UK for accommodation by Uni Compare 2027. Our campus has also held the Green Flag Award for 14 consecutive years. As Computer Science student Mark Lewis explains, “The campus was a big part of it — the greenery, the layout, the facilities. It felt like somewhere I’d actually want to spend three or four years.” Luke Chapman adds, “I chose to study at Edge Hill because I loved the campus, as well as the accommodation and the facilities available in the Tech Hub.”

Through the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification, students can demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, a highly sought-after skill across all industries. Students can also pursue the Microsoft Certified Fundamentals (MCF) certifications, which provide an introduction to key technology areas such as cloud computing, data, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
These industry-recognised credentials complement academic studies, strengthen CVs and help students stand out to employers in an increasingly competitive job market.
