What you'll study
In your first year of our digital marketing degree, you’ll develop your knowledge of the key principles of marketing including targeting, positioning, the marketing mix and theories of segmentation. You’ll consider how to understand consumer markets, and the techniques used by marketing professionals to influence and communicate to their target audience. Developing your analytical skills is key in the world of digital marketing, which is why we’ll enhance your ability to extract and analyse data to inform business and marketing decisions. You’ll even practice launching your own business through the New Venture Creation module, which allows you to put theory into practice as you work on developing and evaluating your proposed idea.
In your second year you will develop your analytical skills through focusing on the monitoring of social media analytics. You’ll understand the behaviours of consumers and which factors influence their purchase decisions. The implications of the digital economy will be considered, and how marketing campaigns can be tailored to this. Your work placement allows you to practice your skills in the workplace, providing you with crucial knowledge and experience that you can showcase to future employers.
As you approach the end of your studies, well look to the future in the world of Tech, Data and Artificial Intelligence. You’ll gain insights into how different business sectors have embraced the power of technology trends. You’ll also look at the international aspect of marketing, and how businesses can expand their marketing strategy on a global scale. The final year also includes a marketing simulation that shows the effects of your decision-making against the market, competitors and your proposed product positioning. You’ll have the opportunity to work with employers in a real-world setting as part of the Live Project module, giving you the opportunity to network and make employer connections. Or you could launch your own product or service in the Graduate Enterprise module. You’ll have support from a business consultant, who will help you to navigate and solve the challenges small business owners face.
How you'll study
You will have access to excellent facilities and resources, with extensive use of information technology to support your learning. Coursework may comprise individual and group work, case studies and problem-solving exercises.
You will have the opportunity to develop your employability profile through a work placement or participation in a graduate enterprise project.
How you'll be assessed
The combination of assessments considers vocational capability, academic critical thinking and intellectual development. Examinations may take different forms, using both seen and unseen questions, and be closed or open book. Case studies and problem-solving exercises may also be used.
