From the 2026/27 academic year, we’re introducing a new Session Recording Policy.
The policy explains how and when taught live learning sessions may be recorded, helping to make learning more accessible and flexible for our students.
Access to recordings lets you revisit learning sessions at a time that works for you, making learning more accessible and flexible for all students, including those with health conditions, disabilities, caring responsibilities, learning differences, or other commitments that may affect your studies.
In most cases, taught live learning sessions will be recorded when it’s appropriate and practical to do so. Some sessions may not be recorded due to the nature of the teaching or privacy considerations. This approach helps balance the benefits of recordings with the needs of different subjects and learning environments.
Recording doesn’t impact my attendance, it allows me to feel more comfortable and have less anxiety knowing I can revisit the information, I feel happier going in – Student
What the policy means
The new policy aims to:
- Improve accessibility and inclusion for students.
- Provide greater consistency in the student learning experience.
- Support flexible review and consolidation of learning.
- Clarify expectations around recording, publishing and managing recordings.
- Define responsibilities for staff, students and the University.
- Provide clear guidance on circumstances where alternative approaches may be more appropriate than recording.
Get the most out of your recorded sessions
Most importantly, don’t struggle alone. If a recording doesn’t clear things up, speak to your lecturer, tutor or student support services.
How will Session Recording improve your university experience?
By having your taught live learning sessions recorded, you can:
- Achieve academic attainment when working towards your educational goals
- Improve your knowledge retention by rewatching sessions
- Better support your assessment preparation and revision
- Reinforce your learning consolidation
- Become more flexible with inclusive learning
- Increase your confidence and engagement
- Upgrade your academic success
It’s important to remember that recordings are intended to complement teaching and learning rather than replace attendance, participation or engagement in scheduled sessions.
Attend, engage, review and reach out when you need help.
You said, we listened

Another example of how sharing your thoughts and opinions can improve your university life.
Lack of recordings impacts me every day, it affects how confident I feel at exams – I can’t keep up scribbling down everything they say – Student
I have ADHD and need to hear content repeatedly for processing. It seems to be left up to the individual academic to decide, no one is being consistent – Student
All our sessions are recorded; I use them regularly and find them to be useful – Student
