Badminton star Gail Emms, a silver medallist in the 2004 OIympics and winner of the 2006 World Championships, was guest speaker at the recent Believe Sports Awards.

Hosted by Wigan Council’s Be Well services, the annual awards shine a spotlight on volunteers and individuals who help sporting clubs, in addition to celebrating athletes and participants.

Sponsoring the awards highlights Edge Hill’s commitment to improving opportunities in Wigan.

The Martin Lynn School Commitment to PE and Sport Award sponsored by Edge Hill University was won by St George’s Central Primary and Nursery.

In 2020, Edge Hill joined forces with Wigan Council, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL), and Wigan and Leigh College to boost education, health and economic prospects in the area.

More recently the partnership has expanded its placement opportunities for Edge Hill sports students through the Leigh Sports Village Campus, which has provided invaluable work experience for undergraduates.
