Edge Hill University Law Clinic provides free legal advice to members of the public
The Law Clinic is an established initiative which provides free of charge, confidential legal advice to all staff and students at the University (based in Ormskirk, Lancashire) as well as members of the public during term time. Under the supervision of Law Clinic Director and Solicitor, Robert Collinson as well as solicitors from external legal practices, final year Law students can gain direct experience of advising real clients with genuine legal issues.
Applying their legal knowledge and considered legal advice to help clients, our students have a practical and in-depth experience and enhance their employability skills in a wide range of practice areas. For an appointment please complete the Law Clinic Enquiry Form.
Director of the Law Clinic and Solicitor Robert Collinson said:
“All law employers these days expect students at the very least to have undertaken work experience if they wish to work in legal practice. Law Students who have the opportunity to take the significant further steps of interviewing and advising a real client, will have a substantial advantage in terms of convincing employers that they have the commitment and skills needed in the modern world of legal practice.”
Types of legal matters considered
The Law Clinic gives advice on most personal legal issues, providing a great grounding for students as they gain a solid insight into law in practice. This year students provided advice on wills and probate issues, employment and contract law, criminal offences, problems with landlords, property matters including land sales and boundary disputes and personal injury issues. We also work with external legal practitioners in private practice, including Kristina Stoddern of Maxwell Hodge, Solicitors, who supervises students providing advice in the Law Clinic.
