This achievement is thanks to the dedication of Edge Hill’s Facilities Management Team who have worked hard in all weathers to maintain the extensive campus grounds to the highest standards, providing a beautiful space for students, staff and members of the public to enjoy.
Grounds Manager Neil Toner said: “The whole FM team are immensely proud to have won this award so many times, 10 years in a row is a fantastic achievement. We all take immense pride in creating spaces where people can take a few minutes out of their day to sit and relax in a stunning, natural environment.
“Whether it’s the lakes, the rock garden, flower beds or open spaces, we work hard to make sure all of them are kept to the highest standard. I’d like to thank every member of staff for their contribution to winning this award.”
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Edge Hill University also lit up their main building in green, joining locations and landmarks across the UK to celebrate Green Flag Award success and to say a massive thank you to the parks staff, volunteers and key workers for all their work this year.
Parks and green spaces across the country will be raising their Green Flag Award with pride in a period when millions of people have seen the value of having great quality green spaces on their doorstep. 94% of adults agree that parks and green spaces are good for the community.
Neil added: “I think everyone has always known that getting out into nature is vital for good health and wellbeing. It’s great to be able to give students and staff a safe outdoor space for them to explore, get some exercise or just sit and feed the ducks.”
