Preparing your finances

Before starting your PGCE it’s important you have your Student Finance sorted. Find out more about:

  • Applying for Student Finance

If you have not yet applied for help with financing your studies, you should apply immediately at www.gov.uk/student-finance. The process can take some time, so it is important that you do not delay with making your application.

If your funding has not been approved at the time of enrolment evidence of your application will be required, such as a screenshot of your Student Finance application summary page.

If you are self-funding your studies, please contact us on TutionFees@edgehill.ac.uk before enrolment.

    Assessment of Funding

Once Student Finance have completed your assessment they will send you paperwork confirming your entitlement to funding. You can check on the progress of your application online and will be able to view anything outstanding on your account via your ‘To-Do’ list and also see a copy of your assessment once it is available.

Please ensure that all of your details are correct, including:

        • The university you will be studying at
        • The course you will be studying and year of study
        • The tuition fee for your course.

If any of the above details are incorrect on your Student Finance paperwork please contact TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk.

    Proof of Funding

The University receives confirmation of all approved funding from Student Finance.

If your funding has not been approved at the time of enrolment, you must demonstrate to the University that you have made an application by providing evidence such as a screenshot of your Student Finance application summary page or provide your Customer Reference Number for Student Finance. This should be forwarded to TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk.

When will I receive my funding?

After you have completed enrolment and become a fully registered student your first payment will be released. It can take up to five working days for payment to arrive in your account, or longer, if you applied for funding late. But remember, this will only be paid if your application is approved and all checks have been completed by Student Finance.

    Bursaries

There is no application process for bursaries. Eligible students will be advised during enrolment and asked to provide bank details and National Insurance details to enable payment of the bursary.

More information regarding bursaries can be found on our fees and funding webpage.

    Finance Checklist

Please check that you have completed the following:

        • Apply for funding
        • Regularly check your ‘To Do’ list on your Student Finance online account and complete any outstanding actions
        • Make sure your application details are correct.

    Finance Tips

There are a few other things you need to consider before you start at University:

    Outstanding conditions

If there are any outstanding conditions of your offer when you enrol, you will only be able to part-enrol. Student Finance is only released when you become fully enrolled so you are advised to address all conditions of your offer as soon as possible. If you have any queries around the conditions of your offer please email admissions@edgehill.ac.uk.

Bringing money to cover your first two weeks

Payments from Student Finance can take up to five days to arrive in your account, or longer if you applied for funding late.

With this in mind, it might be worth bringing enough money with you to cover your first two weeks, just in case there is a problem with your funds being released.

    Opening a student bank account

Visit www.moneysavingexpert.com/students/Student-bank-account to see a useful comparison of all of the different student accounts that are available to you.
