Cultural Heritage and Media Creation
We are excited to announce our summer schools in “Cultural Heritage” and “Media Creation”. Whether you want to experience the rich literary, musical, linguistic and literary heritage of the Northwest through some its most famous writers, bands and coastal and mountainous scenery; or explore the cities and popular cultures that have shaped this iconic paper of the UK, we have courses that you will love. Or, if you’d rather be inspired by the region to produce your own work, you can do that too.
We want to offer you as much intellectual and creative freedom as we can to allow you to engage with, respond to and produce work inspired by our region – one that has an amazing history of creativity, thought, design, language, built environment and nature. You will leave having a deeper knowledge of, and understanding for the people, places and art that northwest England has produced; as well as giving those of you who want to, the chance to join this creative heritage in producing your own work.
The three different courses can be studied alone or in various combinations to allow maximum flexibility:
Stand-alone cultural heritage 1(week 1 and 2)
Cultural heritage full programme (week 1-4)
Stand-alone Media Creation (week 1 and 2)
Media Creation and Cultural Heritage 2 (week 1-4)
Stand-alone Cultural Heritage 2 (week 3 and 4)
The Schools will appeal to any student who has a passion for culture and art; and who wants to develop this in the context of one of the most influential regions of the UK. It will also be ideal for anyone wanting to stretch their creative capacities in a new, inspirational, and collaborative environment.
* An English language level of Intermediate (B1/IELTS 5 equivalent) is recommended for taking part on this course.

Politics
Making Sense of Politics – Making Sense of the World.
This Summer School aims to help students navigate their way through the often-changing world of Politics.
Focusing mainly, but not entirely, on the UK, the course will explore Politics from a range of vantage points. We will look at systems and at people. We will ask how policies are made, how politicians communicate and how political parties’ plan. There is scope to focus on current or contentious issues such as conflict over Northern Ireland or the issue of prisoners’ votes as well as to examine how the media covers politics and political issues. Students will take part in at least one practical project and will have the opportunity to take part in visits and to meet people currently operating in the Political world.
This school would appeal to students who want to gain a deeper understanding of how decisions are made and how Politics works. While focusing mainly on the UK, many of the principles are applicable to other democracies and there will be scope for some comparative work.
We don’t expect students to already have knowledge of UK systems. But an interest in Politics and in the news is essential.
* An English language level of Intermediate (B1/IELTS 5 equivalent) is recommended for taking part on this course.
