Researchers in the department are normally housed in the Tech Hub building, which has cutting-edge computing facilities and hardware (high-end GPU servers, robots, Hololens, VIVEs, 4K CAVE facilities, etc.). The department has also an established community of Postgraduate Researchers undertaking research in different areas of computer science. We operate under a university research governance and ethics framework.

The department’s research priorities are to continue increasing volume of high-quality research outputs leading to societal and economy impact, postgraduate student and staff research development, international reputation, and securing income to build research capacity. We aim to realize these priorities through world-leading and internationally excellent research which aligns with three overarching multi-disciplinary research centres: (1) Centre for Data and Complex Systems Research, and (2) Data Science STEM Research Centre, and (3) Intelligent Visual Computing Research Centre.

The research conducted within these centres is led by established researchers who oversee a diverse portfolio of research programmes. We are seeking talented and motivated applicants to work closely with researchers whose research aligns to the research strands in Intelligent Visual Computing Research Centre. The applicant should have solid mathematical ability and excellent programming skills. A basic knowledge of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision is essential. Prior research experiences in image/video, language, sequential data analysis and understanding or any combination of these modalities will be a bonus. Successful candidate will be supported by a supervisory team with international reputation in discipline-specific expertise. In the first instance, please direct all enquiries about this opportunity to Professor Ardhendu Behera, [email protected].
