Nutritional interventions to enhance sports performance

Project lead

Project team

The applied focus of this group is the optimisation of nutritional supplements to enhance sporting performance. Endurance sport examples to date include cycling, swimming, running and rowing. Intermittent team sports including football, combat sports including Taekwondo, and training modalities including Cross-Fit and Olympic lifting have also been examined with a view to developing a greater understanding of current practice and informing sport-specific interventions.

Physiological assessment of athletes

Project lead

Project team

The assessment and monitoring of athletes is commonly used to optimise performance in elite, sub-elite and recreational sports performers. This group has experience and expertise in the profiling of individuals in a range of sports including endurance athletes and intermittent team sports. We have the capacity to undertake laboratory-based assessments including maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) testing, blood lactate profiling, body composition measurements, anaerobic testing and environmental acclimatisation. In addition, field based assessments, lifestyle, and wellness evaluations can be utilised to aid the preparation and planning of training practices.
