International study opportunities

The Department of Sport and Physical Activity offers opportunities for a select number of students to spend a full academic year studying at partner universities in Europe and/or North America.

Three students chat while standing on the viewing platform on the roof of the Sports Centre which overlooks the athletics track.

The department currently has Erasmus+ partnerships with Malmö University (Sweden), the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), the University of Vic (Catalonia), the University of Valencia (Spain), Institut Nacional d’Educacio Fisica de Catalunya (INEFC) (Barcelona), the University of Almería (Spain) and Lithuania Sports University.

Partnerships outside of Europe include: Oklahoma City University (USA), Bellarmine University (USA) and Truman State University (USA).

How it works

Instead of undertaking a three-year degree, students undertake a ‘sandwich year’ and extend their programme of studies to four years. They spend their third year at the partner institution studying a variety of modules which suit their interests (note: modules at partner institutions are delivered in the English language). Following the year at the partner institution, students return to Edge Hill University to complete their final year of studies.

Interested second year students are invited to submit an application in keeping with the annual deadline. The applicants will be shortlisted, with potential candidates invited to an interview.
