Our Societies

Edge Hill University’s School of Law and Criminal Justice is home to dynamic student societies. These student-led groups offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, including internal competitions such as mooting, negotiation and criminal bail hearings. Societies also host networking events, guest speaker panels and social gatherings like the School Winter Ball. The societies main goal is to help students enjoy the full experiences of university life and get the most from it.

Annual highlights include the International Women’s Day panel, celebrating voices across the legal and justice sectors and Meet the Judges, a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with members of the judiciary and gain insights into legal careers.

The societies also offer a peer mentoring scheme, giving students someone to reach out to for support, advice or guidance throughout their studies.

Moot Court

Located in the Law & Psychology Building, Edge Hill University’s Moot Court Room is a converted real-life Magistrates Court, offering an authentic setting for students to develop advocacy and cross-examination skills. It hosts internal and external mooting and negotiation competitions, providing law and criminal justice students with hands-on experience in courtroom procedures and legal argumentation.

Crime House

Police Immersive Technology Suite

Edge Hill University’s Crime House offers a cutting-edge environment for immersive policing and criminal justice training. Featuring mock crime scenes, custody suites, interview rooms and a control room, the facility enables students to engage in realistic scenario-based learning. It supports practical experience in evidence collection, investigative interviewing and crime scene management, enhancing skills aligned with the National Policing Curriculum.

Pro Bono Law Clinic

The Law Clinic offers free, confidential legal advice to the local community, as well as University staff and students. Final year law students work under the supervision of experienced solicitors and Law Clinic Directors, gaining hands-on experience with real clients and legal issues. This practical environment helps students apply legal theory to real-world problems, enhancing their skills and employability across a range of legal practice areas.
