Our microbiology laboratory provides a complete environment for preparing, growing, and maintaining microbial cultures, including organisms requiring anaerobic conditions.

Prepare

Aseptic preparation of media, plates and broths within a controlled laminar flow environment.

Culture and Incubate

Streaking, plating and broth culture, with both standard and shaking incubation available depending on your organism or protocol.

Storage and Support

Centrifugation, spectrophotometric measurement, and sterilisation support for routine microbiology workflows.

Our equipment

Coy Vinyl Anaerobic Chamber

Our anaerobic workstation maintains a strict anaerobic atmosphere of 0–5 ppm oxygen, using a palladium catalyst and a 5% hydrogen gas mix to continuously scrub residual oxygen from the chamber. A vacuum airlock allows samples and equipment to be transferred in and out without disturbing the internal atmosphere, suitable for organisms that cannot tolerate even brief exposure to atmospheric oxygen.

Taking your research further

Once your cultures are established, some of our other facilities support the next stage of your work, whether that’s molecular characterisation or detailed imaging.

Molecular analysis

Extract and quantify DNA from your cultures, run PCR or qPCR to confirm identity or detect specific genes, and carry out routine quality control on your samples, all within our molecular biology laboratories.

Visualising your organisms

From routine brightfield observation to high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, our imaging facilities support detailed visualisation of microbial morphology and surface structure.
