Who is this module for?

This module has been designed for staff from a range of professional backgrounds. Applicants will be healthcare professionals who will have normally completed one year of preceptorship. The module has been designed to develop a deeper knowledge of the prevention of cardiovascular disease and therefore is relevant for staff working in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings.

What are the key aims of the module?

The module aims to support and develop students to:

  • Critically evaluate the evidence relating to the incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular disease, critically appraising the role of local and national policies in addressing the complex nature of reducing risk
  • Critically apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology & pharmacology to the potential disordered physiology of the individual undergoing a risk assessment in a health check, being pro-active in recognising and addressing unforeseen events
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of knowledge and skills required in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of person-centred care for patients with risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

How will I study?

You will be expected to attend the first taught day and the practical sessions in person. You will be offered the option of attending the subsequent taught sessions in person or joining the sessions online.

These materials will be lodged online in the module BB area for your consideration.
