Between finding your way around campus, making new friends and settling into a new place, there’s lots to take on board. But don’t worry. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
Your Induction Week timetable:
Your Induction Week timetable provides all the information you need during your first week – including where you need to be and when. There are a range of activities planned for you, including sessions designed to help you get to know people you’ll be studying with.
We will email you when your Induction Week timetable is available later on this summer.
Use these drop down boxes to find out what you need to do during your first week at Edge Hill:
Enrol on your course
First things first, you need to make sure that you’ve fully enrolled onto your course. Enrolment is the process by which you confirm your personal details and agree to the University’s terms and conditions. This is different to the admissions process and you won’t receive your student loan until you’ve fully enrolled. You also won’t be able to get your Unicard, which acts as your student ID and allows you to access facilities across campus.
If you’re not sure how to complete enrolment, find out more details on the enrolment pages.
Explore our support services
Studying at university can be different to anything you’ve done before and you’ll need to know how to get the most out of the library and other learning resources that you’ll need during your studies.Find out more
Check in with your Personal Tutor
Every Edge Hill student has a Personal Tutor, who’s there to help you get the most out of university. You’ll meet in a group and also individually two or three times a year, and they’re always available to discuss any personal or academic concerns you might have. You usually have the same personal tutor for the duration of your course.
Get to know your surroundings
Did you know that Edge Hill’s campus is award winning? There’s plenty to explore including social areas with outdoor seating, lakeside walks, hidden gardens and a nature trail complete with outdoor exercise equipment. Ormskirk town centre boasts beautiful parks and a lively high street with shops, banks, cafes, bars and a market twice a week. And, when you sign up to Totum via the Students’ Union, you’ll get exclusive student discounts in local shops and restaurants.
Get to know the Students’ Union
While much of your time at Edge Hill will be focused on studying, university is a place where you can develop all aspects of yourself. Whether that’s learning a new language, joining a society or sports club, or spending a year studying abroad, the SU’s Welcome Fair is the place to go to find out what’s on offer.
Keep an eye on the Students’ Union website for more information.
Connect with our Campus Life Team
The EHU Campus Life Team are here to help you make the most of your time with us at Edge Hill University. Let them help you to feel a part of our community and find the events you want to be at!
Over the year the team will be hosting and promoting a variety of activities on and off campus such as football tournaments, film nights, talent shows, shopping trips and seasonal events. They can point you in the direction of anything and everything you’ll be interested in as well as offer friendly advice and support about student life.
Follow the team’s social media accounts to keep up to date with what’s on:
Register with the local medical centre
We strongly recommend that you register with a local GP service as soon as you can. It is not a good idea to leave it until you need to see a doctor as the registration process may delay your appointment.
Find out what’s on
We’ve got an exciting programme of events planned to help you settle in and find friends. Keep an eye out for more information.
Faith and Community
Our Faith and Community service is here to support students and staff of all faiths and none, helping to create a welcoming community on campus. Whether you face economic crisis, family and relationship problems, or simply wish to talk to us, our multi-faith chaplains offer a confidential and non-judgemental service from a spiritual perspective.
Settle in to campus life
If you’re struggling with settling in or feeling homesick, you’re not on your own. We offer a range of wellbeing services to support you throughout your time at Edge Hill. You may feel that you need to talk to someone who can help you get a fresh perspective on how you’re feeling and why. We offer a confidential counselling service especially for this purpose available to all students. You can book an initial appointment online.
The only official Welcome Week 2022
Every year, hundreds of new Edge Hill students join unofficial Facebook groups, which advertise fake events and persuade students to buy tickets that never arrive. We want to put an end to this.
DO NOT buy tickets to any event that claims to be a Freshers event if it is not hosted and advertised by Edge Hill Students’ Union. It could be a scam, and we don’t want you to be out of pocket.
