BSc (Hons) and MSCi Sport and Exercise Science

Are you interested in learning more about the science behind sport and exercise?
Join Dr Kelly Marrin, Programme Leader, Sport and Exercise Science, to learn more about how you’ll study biomechanics, psychology, physiology and nutrition, and other areas, whilst studying a British Association of Sport and Exercise Science endorsed degree.
During your interactive lab-based session you’ll experience the contemporary and innovative approaches we take towards research and vocational practice. You’ll find out how our state-of-the-art laboratories can be used to enhance health and help physiologically prepare athletes for high performance sport. You’ll also preview biomechanical strategies used for injury prevention and sports conditioning. Finally, there’ll be the opportunity to experience some of the psychological techniques used in the preparation for, and participation in, sport and exercise.
As this is an interactive session, please come prepared to participate in some practical activity.
BA (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport

Physical Education: Theory and Practice!
Join Sarah Hunt, Programme Leader, Physical Education and School Sport for a session that will first include the chance to engage in a variety of practical activities. From this you’ll gain knowledge and understanding of how physical education can holistically promote cognitive, affective, and social development of individuals through the physical. It will also highlight how physical education develops leadership, communication and problem-solving skills through fun, interactive activities.
During the second part of your session you’ll get to take part in a discussion about what physical education means, the recent developments in physical education and school sport, and the implications for you as a future practitioner. Before you leave, you’ll have a great insight into how your degree will prepare you with the skills, knowledge and experiences needed to increase your employability and credibility within the ‘real world’ of physical education and school sport.

What is it like to study sport management?
Dr Emily Lovett, Programme Leader, Sport Management, leads a session that will give you a real-life experience of your sport management degree programme. During your taster, you’ll be introduced to several activities and topics that you’ll study as part of your degree. You’ll also get the chance to discover new ideas and theories about sport and physical activity, along with key approaches to sport management. We’ll think about what constitutes sport management and how we can strive for excellence in the sector.
There’ll be some practical activity in our award-winning facilities so you can put into practice some of the exciting opportunities discussed. So, before you leave, you’ll have had an insight into your programme and been shown how to think differently and critically about sport management.

What is it like to study sports coaching?
Join Kenny Greenough, Programme Leader, Sports Coaching, for a taster session that will give you a unique insight into your sports coaching degree programme. You’ll be introduced to ideas and theories about sport and physical activity, along with key approaches to sports coaching. You’ll then investigate new ideas and strategies for sports coaching and get to take part in a practical session.
During the session you’ll use various technologies so you can put into practice the ideas you’ve been introduced to. After your session ends, you’ll be able to think differently, and critically, about sports coaching and have developed an understanding of the real world of sports coaching.

Are you interested in learning more about becoming a Graduate Sports Therapist?
John McCreadie, Programme Leader Sports Therapy will lead a taster session that demonstrates the specific contemporary skills and knowledge sports therapists employ when dealing with athletes in a sporting environment. Staff on the programme are highly experienced and enthusiastic with extensive experience of working in sports ranging from amateur to professional levels. Discover how you’ll acquire specific practical skills that are informed by best practice whilst studying for a Society of Sports Therapists accredited degree at Edge Hill University.
