In this talk, we’ll focus on how a person’s gaze can be a window into the mind, and the types of psychological research that staff and students can conduct at Edge Hill University. We will discuss the methods that Psychologists use to investigate the visual system, and how this helps us better understand the decisions and errors that people make. This will highlight the practical and theoretical benefits of undertaking scientific research in Psychology.

How important do you think the compatibility between a therapist and client is? Within this interactive subject session, we will be exploring the topic area of personality compatibility in therapeutic contexts. This session will provide a brief overview of personality and the topic area of personality similarity in therapeutic contexts. You will get the chance to share your own ideas about this topic area and why you think compatibility may, or may not be, relevant to therapeutic effectiveness. Additionally, you will learn about current research being conducted in the Department of Psychology at Edge Hill University.

What causes crime? Are some people born criminals? Is there really such a thing as a criminal mind? In today’s era of crime documentaries, it is essential to separate myths from reality. During this interactive session, we will examine how Forensic Psychology addresses these questions, drawing on evidence-based research and real-world examples. Additionally, you will learn about current research being conducted by the Forensic team in the Department of Psychology at Edge Hill University.

Within this subject session, we’ll be exploring some examples of how psychology might help us better understand issues faced within education. You’ll get the chance to share your own ideas about what educational issues and challenges might exist, and the session will introduce you to ways that psychologists can go about exploring these issues within research. The session will walk you through methods that psychologists can use and it’ll introduce you to some of the cutting-edge research tools and techniques we have in the Department of Psychology at Edge Hill, and how our psychology staff are exploring these fascinating issues. The session will be highly interactive, and so you are encouraged to get involved and discuss your ideas with other offer holders to get as much as possible from the experience.

In this interactive session, we will explore the psychological concept of loss aversion, the idea that losing feels worse than winning feels good, and how it influences decision-making, motivation, and performance in sport. Through real-world examples and class activities, you will discover how the mind can both enhance and hinder sporting performance.
