Preparing for your university interview: online

We hope you’re excited to start the next stage of your application to Edge Hill. Each course has put together their own guidance page to help you with the course specific elements of your interview. But we’ve also brought together some tips to help you get prepared and make the most of your interview experience:

  1. Read your course specific preparation page. This will also include the virtual platform you will need to familiarise yourself with before your interview.
  2. Do a tech check: check the technical requirements for your online interview and make sure your WIFI connection, microphone and camera are all working. Where possible, we advise against using a smartphone as this may compromise the online interview experience. We recommend using a PC or Laptop.
  3. Get rid of any distractions. Make sure you can undertake the interview in a quiet space, free from interruption. Silence your phone and any pop-ups. You don’t want to be distracted and lose your train of thought.
  4. Aim to log onto your chosen device approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled time of your online interview.
  5. For all interview/ auditions you will need your original photographic ID (i.e. current valid passport or photo-card driving licence). This will be checked by your interviewer at the start of your interview. If you do not have suitable ID on the day, you may not be able to take part in the online interview and will have to have your online interview rescheduled for an alternative date. Please note each course may ask for additional items to be brought/have with you please check your course specific guidance or further instructions.
  6. You should allow approximately 1 hour for your online interview process.
  7. We want you to feel comfortable while taking part in your interview. There is no requirement to dress in formal wear, but we ask that you present yourself as a future professional.
  8. Get to know the course and faculty you’re hoping to join using our website.
  9. Prepare your answers to questions. Remember, the interviewer wants to get to know you so answer honestly and confidently. Be professional but try and show what makes you unique.
  10. Think about any questions you would like to ask us. Remember this is also your chance to get answers you haven’t found yet.
