Suggested reading

You will be given lots of information about which textbooks to read and introduced to the University Library, as well as the many ebooks we have for you to access, when you begin your studies in September.

We don’t recommend that you rush out to buy texts before you arrive but if you can pick some up second hand, borrow from a library or access online, we recommend that all Mathematics trainees do some background reading on the teaching of mathematics in schools.

We suggest the following texts:

  • Teaching mathematics in the secondary school (Developing as a Reflective Secondary Teacher), by Paul Chambers, and Robert Timlin, 2019.
  • Learning to Teach Mathematics in the Secondary School: A Companion to School Experience (Learning to Teach Subjects in the Secondary School Series), by Sue Johnston-Wilder, Peter Johnston-Wilder, David Pimm and Clare Lee. 2010.
